The Institute of Media and Communications Policy (IfM) is a high-ranking forum for the media branch, communications research and active policies. As the only research institution in Europe the IfM is exclusively involved in the media and communications political field. It offers concrete models and options for the solution of media political issues and discusses them with the political class. Therefore it contributes to “media policy” being given the strategic status it deserves on journalistic and economic grounds.
The IfM will provide a constantly updated and relevant database of facts on the media economy in Germany and abroad (press, radio and television, cinema, online media, the music market), observe media and communications political models from abroad and compare them with German standards, establish a graduate programme for media and communications politics and work on fundamental concepts and positions of media politics. Current research projects and seminars complement and extend the work of the IfM. The Institute has its headquarters in Berlin-Charlottenburg and a research department in Cologne. It is constituted as a non-profit-making limited company and serves no economic, party or association political purposes. It is promoted through numerous companies within the media branch (both private and state-owned) and public institutions (ministries, State Media Institutes, local authority areas). The committee with corresponding researchers and the board of patrons accompany and advise the activities of the Institute. |
